Inner lids
The inner conjunctival area
The bulbar, tarsal and cul-de-sac conjunctiva forms a space that is also lubricated. It is boot that surrounds the eye allowing blinking and ocular rotation. The tarsal conjunctiva has a layer of spanning mucus, oil, aqueous and the bulbar conjunctiva mucus. Above lacrimation enters the space augmented in the cul-de-sac by accessory glands.
Keratinization
Various stains will reveal keratinization of the conjunctiva. It is a form of metaplasia caused by lack of lubrication and possible other conjunctival nflammation.
Infectious, allergy, airborne toxic chemicals and inflammatory diseases of the conjunctiva.
These are not truly dry eyes but are categorized here because they have the same sensations. The follicles, papillae, and allergic irritation challenge the tear film.
